Setanta insurance announced today that they intend to liquadate the company. This came as a shock and a surprise to everyone in the industry. We are aware that this maybe a worrying time for you if you are insured with Setanta, so we have noted some information below. Because of the announcement our call volumn has increased. If you cannot get through to us by phone, please email jim@powerinsurances.ie and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Possible questions you may have:
Am I currently insured to drive my vehicle?
As per the most recent press release from the insurer, yes you are. As at 6.30 pm 17/4/14 Setanta have said that cover is still in place on all vehicles. If you have an accident with a third party, their damage will have to be covered by either Setanta or the Motor Insurance Beurau of Ireland (MIBI). The only issue you might currently have is if you have an accidental damage, fire, theft or windscreen claim, Setanta have said that they may not be in a position to cover some or all of these types of claims.
What can I do about getting properly covered?
We will be contacting all Setanta clients in the coming days to offer alternative options. If you feel your situation is urgent or you haven’t been contacted and feel you should have, please call us on (061)226722 or email Jim@powerinsurances.ie.
Will the cover be the same as I currently have?
In the majority of cases we will be able to provide like for like cover. We may also be able to offer a short term policy, up until the time your original renewal was due.
What can Power Insurances do to help?
If you are worrired about cover, we can offer an alternative over the phone and place you on cover with a different compnay. We will also waive our set up charge’s and offer a direct debit option (where possible) to help even out the cost of a new policy.
Will I be entitled to a refund if I cancel the Setanta policy?
This has yet to be confirmed from Setanta, but as it stands no. Their is an insurance compensation fund in place for times such as this (an insurer going into liquidation). We have as yet not been notified if this scheme will pay a refund to any out of pocket clients, but we will keep all of our Setanta clients notified.
